Following the tremendous success of our California roadshow just four months earlier, there was no doubt in our minds — we had discovered something truly special.

Meeting online players in person had completely changed how we viewed VIP gaming.

Emails became conversations.

Conversations became friendships.

Friendships became long-term relationships.

It was time for the next adventure.

The next two major VIP markets at the time were Florida and Georgia, and in September 2003, Lou and I packed our bags once again and headed back to the United States for what would become another unforgettable chapter in my career.

For me personally, this trip meant even more.

Ever since I was a teenager, Florida had been one of those dream destinations. Like many people growing up outside America, I'd heard countless stories about the beaches, the palm trees, the incredible lifestyle and, of course, the famous Spring Break parties. I never imagined that my first visit would be to host VIP clients rather than simply being a tourist.

Little did I know that the people I would meet would leave an even bigger impression than the places themselves.

Bigger, Better and More Ambitious

California had given us confidence.

Florida and Georgia gave us momentum.

This roadshow was larger and far more structured than our first.

We invited VIP players from across both states, launching a $25,000 Georgia & Florida Lucky Draw in conjunction with the roadshow, supported by three promotional events leading up to our arrival.

The response was incredible.

Out of 37 VIPs who confirmed attendance, 30 joined us across seven cities and eight memorable dinners.

Every invited guest received:

  • Twenty entries into the $25,000 Lucky Draw
  • A beautiful piece of Waterford Crystal
  • A $200 casino voucher

For us, however, the greatest reward wasn't the promotion.

It was finally putting faces to the names we had spoken to for months.

Florida – Everything I Had Dreamed Of

The moment we arrived in Florida, I understood why so many people fall in love with the Sunshine State.

The beaches.

The warm evenings.

The relaxed atmosphere.

It was exactly as I had imagined all those years earlier while sitting in a classroom back in South Africa.

The VIP players reflected that same lifestyle.

They were relaxed, easy-going, friendly and incredibly welcoming.

Conversations flowed naturally.

There was plenty of laughter around the dinner table, and everyone made us feel completely at home.

Whether we were hosting dinners in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, or Fort Lauderdale, the atmosphere was always the same.

Relaxed.

Comfortable.

Enjoyable.

It reminded me once again that VIP players are simply people who appreciate genuine relationships.

Southern Charm in Georgia

Georgia offered something completely different.

Driving through the countryside and seeing the endless cotton fields was something I'll never forget.

It was peaceful, beautiful and unlike anything I had experienced before.

The players themselves also had a different character.

Compared to the laid-back lifestyle in Florida, many of our Georgia VIPs were a little more conservative and traditional.

Yet they shared something truly special.

Their hospitality.

It was absolutely first class.

Every dinner felt elegant without ever becoming formal.

The conversations were thoughtful, the people incredibly respectful, and by the end of every evening it almost felt as though we had known one another for years.

To this day, I still rate Georgian hospitality a perfect 10 out of 10.

The Real VIP Experience

People often assume these roadshows revolved around gambling.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

the casino rarely dominated the conversation.

Instead, we spoke about families.

Businesses.

Travel.

Sport.

Life experiences.

Future dreams.

The dinners became an opportunity to understand what truly mattered to each individual.

Only then could we genuinely understand how to look after them as VIPs.

That philosophy still guides everything I do today.

The Restaurants That Brought Everyone Together

Every evening was carefully planned around a memorable dining experience. These restaurants became the backdrop to conversations, laughter, new friendships and relationships that, in many cases, lasted for years.

During our Florida and Georgia roadshow we hosted VIP dinners at:

  • Seeger's Restaurant – Atlanta, Georgia
  • The Back Burner Restaurant – Macon, Georgia
  • Chapin Dining Rooms at The Inn at Melhana – The Grand Plantation – Thomasville, Georgia
  • Sterling's of Avondale – Jacksonville, Florida
  • Christini's – Orlando, Florida
  • Armani's at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay – Tampa, Florida
  • The Grill Room at Las Olas – Fort Lauderdale, Florida (hosted over two evenings due to demand)

Each venue had its own unique character, but they all shared one thing in common — they provided the perfect setting for building genuine relationships.

Some evenings were filled with laughter, others with fascinating business conversations, and many ended with us exchanging stories long after dessert had been served.

Looking back, I don't remember every meal we ate, but I remember almost every person who sat around those tables.

The Best Lessons Come From Experience

Every roadshow taught us something.

California taught us that meeting players in person transformed relationships.

Florida and Georgia taught us how to host those events even better.

Looking back, these were some of the most valuable lessons we brought home:

  • Future roadshows should ideally be limited to 12 days.
  • Six or seven dinners created the perfect balance.
  • Never schedule a dinner on the evening of a flight arrival.
  • Spend more time researching restaurants before confirming venues.
  • Smaller, meaningful gifts were often appreciated more than expensive ones.
  • Set menus worked far better than large à la carte orders.
  • Wine pairings added unnecessary complexity.
  • Book everything under the casino's name for consistency.
  • Lucky draws held during the dinner created far more excitement than announcing winners afterwards.
  • Always travel with an additional VIP Host.
  • Around nine VIPs and their spouses created the ideal size for meaningful conversations.
  • One round table — or one long table — worked best, allowing everyone to engage naturally.
  • One dedicated person should coordinate all restaurant, hotel, flight and car hire bookings.

These may sound like small operational improvements.

In reality, they became the blueprint for more than 120 VIP events I would go on to organise around the world over the next two decades.

Why These Roadshows Worked

Looking back today, I don't believe our roadshows succeeded because of the prizes.

They succeeded because players realised something.

We genuinely wanted to know them.

We weren't interested only in their deposits.

We wanted to understand who they were as people.

That simple approach built trust.

And trust builds loyalty.

The Journey Continues

Roadshow No. 2 confirmed that California had not been a once-off success.

It proved that personal relationships could bridge the gap between the online gaming world and real life.

Florida gave me memories I had dreamed about since I was a teenager.

Georgia introduced me to some of the warmest and most welcoming people I have ever met.

Together, they reinforced one lesson that has stayed with me throughout my career:

The best VIP hosts don't build player databases. They build lifelong relationships.

This was only Chapter 2.

Many more roadshows, unforgettable destinations, incredible restaurants and remarkable people were still waiting around the corner.

Over the coming months, I'll continue sharing the stories behind these journeys — the people I met, the lessons I learned, the funniest moments, and the experiences that shaped more than 30 years in VIP gaming.

Every picture tells a story.

And every story reminds me why I fell in love with this industry.

Because after more than three decades, one thing has never changed...

VIP gaming has never been about casinos. It's always been about people.

At VIP Legacy Club, that philosophy remains exactly the same today.

Because while technology continues to evolve, one thing never changes...

People will always remember how you made them feel.
